We are a Multi-faith team within Harrow Citizens, all motivated by a common cause - helping genuine refugees who arrive in Harrow to prosper and thrive.

Between mid-2019 and August 2021 we raised and spent nearly £7,000 helping three Syrian refugee families who came to Harrow under a Government scheme.   

In August 2021 we called for new donations to broaden our work to include Afghan refugees, who are being matched by the Home Office with properties in Harrow.  Many thanks if you have donated to support this work.

SEVEN AFGHAN FAMILIES HAVE NOW  MOVED INTO PROPERTIES WE HELPED TO PREPARE.  Harrow Council initially intended to accommodate a total of 10 families.  Due to changes in Home Office policy, the Council now anticipates a much higher demand, maybe as many as 30 families in due course.  We have recently greatly expanded our team of volunteers and we want to help the Council respond. 

The Council is responsible for finding and equipping the properties with white goods and beds / cots.  Our primary role as Harrow Citizens Refugee Action Team is to supply a range of non-furniture items, such as kitchenware, bedding, toiletries, towels and initial food items.  We also provide curtains, towels, incidental furniture, and in due course probably TV sets and other items to make life a little bit easier.  Many of these items need to be purchased brand new.

We are also continuing our befriending support for the three Syrian families.

Remember, £7,000 of the total shown was been spent; so what we have available is the excess above £7,000.  Our initial incremental target was therefore £8,000 and of which we have raised just over £3,000, approx £1,000 of which is unspent, as at 1 April.
