Walking for Harrison

10K Walk for TTTS · 25 June 2022 ·
Our gorgeous boys were welcomed into the world on 19th of March 2022. Our identical twins Fletcher, our oldest and Harrison our youngest were born one minute a part. Sadly we lost our Harrison after he died in utero and we knew we were welcoming a sleeping baby into the world, which was heartbreaking. The day will always be remembered with happiness and sadness. Harrison died due to Twin to Twin transfusion Syndrome. This is a rare disease of the placenta affecting identical twins. One twin receives too much blood/ fluid whilst the other not enough. Often the babies become very poorly and laser surgery is needed to try and save their lives. We underwent two laser ablation surgeries and three blood transfusions. The surgery was not successful for our twins and Harrison became very poorly just after the second surgery and he passed away peacefully around the 22nd February at 24 weeks and 2 days. We were grateful the surgery meant we got to grow our Fletcher for a few more weeks before his early arrival at 27 weeks and 6 days. Twin to twin transfusion is affecting twins like our boys and we need more research into this to help others and hopefully increase the likelihood of survival. To remember Harrison, Steven and I along with our families will be walking 10k on 25th June to raise money for twins trust. The research into twin to twin transfusion will help other twins and will save many lives. On Thursday 16th April we will be saying goodbye to our darling boy Harrison. We will always love him and remember him and share our memories of him with his brother. Harrison was our “bigger twin”, the twin who took up all the room in the ultrasound scans and the twin who stretched out and rested his chin on his brother’s bottom for comfort! I will never forget feeling you wriggle and seeing your perfect feet and hands when you arrived into the world on 19th March.
Rest in peace our Darling Boy. Xxx
