On 3 October, I will be taking part in the world's biggest ever marathon and running 26.2 miles across London. Not only will I be running so much further than I ever thought possible, but it is also an incredible opportunity to raise much needed money for two charities I care very much about; Prostate Cancer Research (PCR) and the Plunkett Foundation.

Donating via this page will donate directly to Prostate Cancer Research and below is why I am proud to be fundraising for PCR.

One afternoon in March 2019, my parents set about visiting and contacting all four of their children in quick succession. Under the guise of tea and cake, my parents were visiting us all to tell us that Dad had been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. We all knew Dad had various aches and pains, but none of us expected this news. After his diagnosis - scans, tests, hormone treatments and chemotherapy swiftly followed. Along with a whole host of questions and worries from all us, mostly answered via Whatsapp (thanks Mum!).

Today, Dad's condition continues to be treated and monitored and he is holding his own under the watchful eye of his oncologist.

For me, raising money through running the London Marathon is a way to say thank you to each and every person that has helped and continues to help Dad through his treatment. We also know that it is only through dedicated research that treatments for prostate cancer will improve. Research will enable the condition to be diagnosed earlier, treatments will be more effective - and quite simply, those diagnosed with prostate cancer will live more comfortably for longer. With 1 in 8 men being diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, the chances are that we will all know someone with a diagnosis. If not today, then maybe tomorrow.
