I am an extremely proud mummy to my two beautiful daughters, Mia and Hallie. Both have suffered with benign infantile familial epilepsy. A rare genetic condition that causes seizures in infants (in our case Mia from 2 weeks old and Hallie 3 days old). In the first few weeks of each of their lives we have estimated that they both endured over 100 seizures each before medication started to work. Each one as terrifying as the last, completely exhausting them and breaking mine and my husbands hearts a little bit more each time. 

To this day, I am still utterly traumatised by what I had to witness them both go through.

Fast forward to now, Mia is off medication and seizure free, and Hallie is currently being weaned off hers!! I am just so extremely blessed and grateful that both our girls have 'grown out' of their condition and hopefully for good. Not every family is so lucky, and more needs to be done in terms of research and support to those fighting epilepsy every day. 

I'm running this marathon for all those families, but also for my brave and beautiful girls. For every seizure they had to endure, every canula, blood test, mri, ecg, echo, lumbar puncture, syringe of medicine, all of it. If I can cross that finish line and make them half as proud of me as I am of them, that would be a dream come true.
