Story

In March 2022 Supporting Wounded Veterans (SWV) will be taking 26 medically discharged Veterans to Switzerland. With the help of specialist adaptive ski instructors, buddies, medics and support teams this will be the start of their rehabilitation back into employment.

SWV was set up in 2012  to assist those who were physically and mentally injured in the course of their service to rebuild their futures. Veterans are given a unique, specially designed, ski-based development programme which enables them to regain their confidence and embark upon a new path to fitness and wellbeing.  The rehabilitation week in Klosters is followed up with a personal pain management programme, mentoring and employment opportunities, and costs just over £14,000 per veteran.  SWV's track record in getting their veterans back into the workforce is a truly impressive 91%.

This is only financially achievable due to the individual fundraising of the buddies and the wider SWV team and I am honoured to have been selected as a buddy on the 2022 trip.

I am ready to give all I can in order to make their week a special and memorable part of their journey back to fitness and wellbeing.  I will be meeting all my own expenses and any money raised on my Just Giving page is to be matched by an anonymous donor, so please take a moment to help Veterans rebuild their futures, and between us all REALLY make a difference!

To quote some of the veterans:

"I came off these slopes a different person, with a completely different frame of mind toward my own life and future." 2018 veteran

"Few gifts are more precious than helping someone restore their spirit, dignity and self-confidence." 2016 veteran

Equally as important, if you think you might have an opening in your organisation for a veteran, please get in touch with the charity by calling Zizi Mason, Project Manager for Veteran Occupation Training and Employment, on 07799 086 506.

Thank you to you all.
