SANE was established in 1986 to improve the quality of life for people affected by mental illness following the overwhelming public response to a series of articles featured in The Times newspaper entitled
The Forgotten Illness. Written by Marjorie Wallace, now SANE's chief executive, the articles exposed the neglect of people suffering from mental illness and the poverty of services and information.
SANE has three objectives:
· To raise awareness and respect for people with mental illness and their families and secure better services
· To undertake research into the causes of serious mental illness through The Prince of Wales International Centre for SANE Research
· To provide help and information to those experiencing mental health problems, their families and carers through
SANEline and
SANEmail.
SANE has huge celebrity support: Jane Asher, Lynda Bellingham, Rory Bremner, Michael Buerk, Stephanie Cole, OBE, Barry Cryer,
Dame Judi Dench, DBE, Edward Fox, Sir David Frost, OBE, Barry Humphries, AO, Virginia Ironside, Sir Jeremy Isaacs, Gary Kemp,

We are hoping to raise at least £500 (of course more would be amazing). A donation, however small or large it may be, would be greatly appreciated to go to a worthy cause.
