Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Earlier this year I was privileged enough to visit several organisations in Kenya that were working to provide healthcare across the region. Whilst attending a ward round in Ukwala, I learned that in order to receive specialist care, patients needed to travel 417km to Kenyatta hospital in Nairobi. For the majority of people, this journey would be long, expensive and potentially risky.
Experiencing another country’s approach to healthcare first
hand has helped me to understand and appreciate how health inequality can lead to huge variations in the quality of life within the same population. It has also made me further appreciate the value of things like local and national protocols, guidelines and standard operating procedures which mean that we can expect the care that we receive in the UK to be largely the same across the board
Between now and the end of April (the anniversary of my first visit to Kenya), I am aiming to run 417km to raise money to support the work undertaken by Eating Stones Fund UK.
Eating Stones Fund UK aims to relieve poverty & sickness in Kenya, through education & access to effective, holistic healthcare. We work with grassroots projects, listening to those we support to understand what they need to help them out of poverty, tailoring our approach to their specific needs.
