Story
Scooter, Sas, and I are taking part in the Moon Walk 2022, where we will be walking a marathon through the night on the 14th of May. My mum and Sas’s mum did the walk together a few years ago which is why this feels like a particularly poignant challenge for us to undertake.
We have already raised some money for the Walk the Walk charity and have decided that we would like to try and raise the rest for The Juliet Garmoyle Fund, which is in partnership with Place2Be. This fund has been set up in memory of my mum, my best friend who, completely heartbreakingly, died in March 2021.
My mum spent the majority of her 30-year teaching career as a Therapist and Senco (the special educational needs co-ordinator) in a number of primary schools, predominantly located in challenging catchment areas. She believed passionately that the provision of quality mental health support within a school environment was a key factor in enabling children, particularly those from deprived backgrounds, to achieve their true potential.
The Juliet Garmoyle Fund, partnering Place2Be, has been set up as an important part of her legacy. Place2Be is the UK's leading children's mental health charity working in schools, and one she really championed. The Juliet Garmoyle Fund will enable Place2Be to roll out its pioneering, and much needed, service to schools in the South West of England for the first time. Initially, it will focus on schools in the most deprived towns and villages on the North Devon coast, where our family house is located, and where we scattered her ashes.
Any donation big or small would be massively appreciated. Walking a marathon through the night is a huge huge challenge for us, particularly seeing as Scoo has never seen London on foot (only Uber), Sas has exercise related asthma and I have become accustomed to E-scootering absolutely everywhere.
