Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am going to complete the official 26.2 mile distance for the first Virtual London Marathon 2020 on my Alinker walking bike.
In May I completed a 26.2 mile distance with my Alinker running 2.6 miles for 10 consecutive days.
On 4th October I am going to complete the 26.2 mile distance on my Alinker in 1 day as an official participant in The 40th Race.
I completed a 26.2 km run in May and now I want to set a bigger challenge for myself, defying the labels of my multiple disabilities which include autism, OCD and Tourette’s.
On 20th October 2019 I took on my first official race by taking on the 10 mile Great South Run in Portsmouth on my Alinker. I did this just 15 months to the day after having my right foot amputated due to a congenital birth defect and wearing my regular prosthesis. I am a Symes amputee and at this point in time a specialist sports prothesis is not available to me.
I manage day to day with a half leg prosthesis that weighs in excess of 2kg with footwear and gets so hot during any physical activity that after a short time my residual limb feels like it’s on fire. But, I persevere and work through this discomfort to achieve the things that I do and smash my goals.
My Alinker walking bike does not make any challenge easier it makes it possible because I still have to work very hard to move. It has no pedals, no battery power, no motor. It enables me to walk or run while taking the weight off my amputated limb. I am still actively using it but can go for longer and faster.
Check out my Instagram @harleysalter to see what I have achieved in the past two years raising over £10,000 for charities in the process. I have abseiled tall buildings, I have walked long distances, I have raced with seasoned runners and more.
Show your support and belief in me by donating to this page to raise much needed funds for Rowans Hospice.
This fundraising page is set up in tribute to my late Great Aunt Eileen who passed away on 23rd August. She was very special to me and my family and we will all miss her very much. While she never got to benefit from the wonderful services offered by Rowans Hospice, she was always keen to support me in all my fundraising activities and she would be so happy to know I am doing this as a tribute to her.
