EUREKA!!!!! I DID IT!!!! Challenge completed 5th May - see updates below 👍 Total Time: 7hrs 10mins 52secs 🎉🎉
On 26th April it will be the 40th anniversary of the London Marathon.
I am going to commence my own marathon for the 2.6 challenge to raise money for Huntington’s Disease Association.
Each day from 26th April to 5th May I am going to run on my Alinker walking bike 2.6 miles for 10 consecutive days at the end of which I will have run a marathon ie 26 miles.
This will be another daily challenge to add to the multitude of challenges I have no choice but to live with every day. I have differences (disabilities) which impact on my daily living including autism, anxiety, Tourette’s , OCD and more significantly I am a Symes amputee.
I had my right foot amputated in July 2018 due to a congenital birth defect.
I do not have access to a specialist sports prosthesis so I will be doing this challenge with a standard Symes prosthesis and that makes it even harder. It weighs over 2kg with footwear and I have to wear three layers of protective socks.
The Alinker will not be making this challenge easier, it will be enabling me to do it. It works purely by me moving it with my feet so I will have to work very hard to keep moving. it has no pedals and no battery power.
I enjoy doing all sorts of challenges which push my boundaries and show people that I am not my disabilities! I am Harley. You can find out more about me on my Instagram page @harleysalter.
I am raising money for Huntington’s Disease Association to help maintain their funding as they continue to search for a cure. The COVID-19 pandemic could impact on research progress and this cannot be allowed to happen. So many lives could be changed and families saved from the devastating effects of Huntington’s Disease. Researchers are on the cusp of finding that cure. I want to help.
