Story
On Thursday 21st April, staff from Harris Academy Riverside will begin a 36 mile walk through the night, supporting one of our own students who suffers with muscular dystrophy, raising both awareness and vital funds to assist with further research in the quest to find a cure.
The students love of Disney has dictated the walks theme, where staff will be walking throughout the night, starting in Chafford Hundred (Essex), heading to Little Havens Hospice in Benfleet, before the final leg of the walk which will see staff arrive on site at Harris Academy Riverside in Purfleet-on-Thames the following day.
Harris Academy Riverside will be raising essential awareness and funds for Duchenne UK on the walk, but also raising funds to support Little Havens Hospice, our student and his family, through a full day of fundraising activations on site at Harris Academy Riverside.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a devastating muscle-wasting disease. It is the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. Diagnosed in childhood, it mainly affects boys. Started by families affected by the disease, Duchenne UK is the leading DMD charity in the UK: connecting the best researchers with industry, the NHS and families to advance and accelerate every stage of drug development. Together, we will end Duchenne.
