Fundraising for Helping Hanna's Community
Story
There are over 2 million orphans in Ethiopia, many of whom have lost their parents to poverty, disease, and conflict. Hanna’s is a small charity set up to help the children of Ethiopia by supporting the maintenance and expansion of Hanna Orphans’ Home (HOH).
HOH wants their young people to thrive as members of the community, as opposed to growing up in an institutionalised setting, and aim to help the children grow as confident, productive and self-reliant individuals. A team of trained staff and professionals work together to achieve these goals. It includes counsellors, support workers, and social workers.
There are more than 200 children who currently receive support from HOH, from preschool to university students.
- 37 children live across 7 homes, each with an assigned live-in-house Mother
- A further 163 children are supported within the local community, with support being offered to both them, and their families
We are all volunteers, and the donations we raise go to the benefit of the orphanage, not to salaries. We only purchase what the charity wants and needs.
We have been supporting HOH since 2010. So far we've been able to provide basic necessities like food, clothing, and educational materials. We have funded the purchase of beds, so that every child has its own at the orphanage. We have also bought a car for the organisation - that way the orphanage can make food purchases in bulk and take the children for regular medical checks without interruption.
In August, our group will be travelling to Ethiopia to teach and work with the children at Hanna's Orphanage. This trip is funded by Bayes Business School so 100% of any donations go directly to Hanna's Orphanage and supporting what they need.By donating to our cause, you can provide hope and opportunity to orphans in Ethiopia.
