Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in support of OVARIAN CANCER ACTION
So my lifelong goal is finally happening... I am running the London Marathon, 2023 (How have you dodged this one Dad!) in memory of my Mum, Debbie. I have always had a passion for running and ever since I took part in the Mini Marathon way back in 2003 it has been my dream to run in the “big one”.
Sadly, on Tuesday 15th June 2021, we lost the most amazing woman, my Mum. As many of you know, Mum was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer back in February 2018. Despite this devastating news, Mum continued to live with the cancer and enjoyed every moment she could. A move to Cornwall! A new hobby of knitting! But above all, a will to keep on going! Mum was determined to enjoy life and live life to the full for as long as she was able to despite the relentless treatment.
During her illness, Mum had a fantastic team of people that looked after her – Thank you to all at the Mt Alvernia Hospital in Guildford, the Health Care at Home team in Cornwall, Treliske Hospital, The Cornwall Hospice and the District Nurse team.
The London Marathon was always one of Mum's favourite events. For many years she organised a group of volunteers to help at the “mile 18 water station” giving her local Girl Guides the opportunity to experience such an awesome occasion. Despite coming home inspired from all the runners and carrying enough bottled water to last us until the next year, Mum's place was absolutely on the volunteering side and has the t-shirts and medals to go with it! - and so instead I'll do the running part!
My training starts today on her birthday, I feel truly overwhelmed by it all but excited to give it my best shot. I hope to raise as much money as I can in support of Ovarian Cancer Action to help other women and families who will sadly experience this killer disease.
Thanks for reading this far!
