Story
On Sunday 11th June 2023, I am taking part in the Four Falls Trek in the Brecon Beacons, to raise funds for The Pituitary Foundation.
My Story
In 2008 at 16 years old, I was diagnosed with a rare type of benign brain tumour on my pituitary gland called craniopharyngioma.
I had brain surgery at Kings College Hospital London, where they removed the craniopharyngioma transphenoidally (through my nose).
The craniopharyngioma had compressed and attached itself to my pituitary gland, I now have panhypopituitarism and secondary adrenal insufficiency, I rely on a number of hormone tablets and injections to keep me alive and functioning.
My consultant signposted me to the pituitary foundation, and I've been using this wonderful charity's resources ever since.
I have managed to lead a relatively normal, independent life (whatever normal is), I finished school, college, then university, and qualified as a registered nurse in 2014, I am thankful that I have remained fairly stable throughout the years, but the pituitary foundation has always been my 'go to' if I have any queries or concerns.
I feel honoured to take part in this trek, to raise money for this brilliant charity the pituitary foundation, they've not only helped me, but so many others with pituitary conditions.
