Story
After the London 2020 Marathon was cancelled, and I had to pull out of the October 2022 marathon for injury reasons, I am finally getting the chance to run the London Marathon in 2024!
I am taking the plunge for an amazing cause. The Eikon Charity are a youth charity based in Surrey who aim to inspire children and young people to help change lives. Mental health services are severely stretched and, especially in our current society, it is imperative that young people receive help and support before issues escalate to crisis point. Eikon provides:
- Youth Specialists in schools for children and young people to reach out to when they are struggling
- Youth Workers in the community and safe places where children can feel secure, build friendships and learn to thrive.
- Resources for teachers and other professionals to help children with their resilience and learn to cope with life's challenges, no matter what life throws at them.
Having worked with Eikon directly in 2019-20, I was able to see first hand the difference they are able to make. With around 11,000 5 to 15 year olds in Surrey suffering with a mental disorder, I hope to raise much-needed funds to help Eikon support those in need. Just £15 would pay for a school lunch club; £30 would pay for a one-to-one session with a youth specialist and £150 would pay for a young person to go to a youth club in their community once a week.
Any funds that you are able to spare would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
