Story
What are we doing?
The Feldman clan will be swimming in the freeeeeezing cold sea in Tenby, Wales, this boxing day. Yes, that's right - swimming. In the sea. In December.
Why would you do that?!
I am part of a group who are raising £10,000 to bring a refugee family to the UK, and support them to settle into the community. This is part of a wider Community Sponsorship scheme - see how it works here: http://www.sponsorrefugees.org/
This is important to me for several reasons. I myself am a descendant of Jewish refugees (although they may not have used such a term at the time), and would not be alive today, had my Great-Great Grandparents not been welcomed from Eastern Europe nearly a century ago.
A few years ago, I worked with some of the most intelligent, promising young people trapped in a refugee camp in Thailand. It is a devastating waste of potential - I know they could thrive and contribute so much if given the opportunities we are afforded in the UK.
Finally, last winter, I worked in the Dunkirk Refugee Camp. I saw first-hand the conditions people are forced to endure, and the life-threatening risks people are taking, because they are not offered a safe route into this country. Families who are desperately fleeing war and persecution, and seeking the chance for a meaningful life for their children.
So please donate, and support a family to have the same opportunities my great-great grandparents were given. Spare them the dangerous journey across the seas and the horrific Jungles of Europe - or wasting, trapped in a camp on the Syrian border.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
