Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
Not long ago my lovely mother-in-law received a dementia diagnosis. It’s been an incredibly difficult and upsetting time for the family, This formidable woman who raised 4 children now can’t make a cup of tea or write her name. And my father-in-law is having to learn to be a homemaker and carer for the first time in his life, in his 70s.
So, in a moment of madness (some may call it a midlife crisis) I’ve decided to take on two big running events in 2020: the London Landmarks Half Marathon in March and the Edinburgh Marathon in May. Yes, you read that right. A full marathon 😳 something I always said I couldn’t do. 3 years ago I literally couldn't run a mile. I’ve come a long way since then. But there’s no challenge if it’s easy, right?
I'm raising money for the Alzheimers Society because frankly dementia terrifies me more than the idea of running 26.2 miles. Dementia is not just a natural part of aging, and its not just about memory loss. The effects on individuals and families are devastating. There is currently no cure for dementia, but scientists and researchers are working on it. Until then, Alzheimers Society are working to create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice, and to support everyone affected by dementia.
Thanks for reading.
