In January of this year my Grampy passed away at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital of mesothelioma. This is a rare form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos in some way.
Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer which often does not rear its ugly head until 30 to 50 years after asbestos exposure, when its victims are much loved parents and grandparents. My Grampy was a retired police Detective Chief Inspector and was never certain exactly when it was that he became affected.
I am running the Cheltenham Half Marathon on Sunday 7th September and the Stroud Half Marathon on Sunday 26th October of this year in his memory, and to raise money for Mesothelioma UK, a national resource centre who provide specialist information, support and care. I'd be so grateful for any sponsorship, please, so I can help the charity to continue to support people with asbestos cancer and their families, Thank you.
