Story
The last few months of lockdown have been awful. We've been cooped up, staring at the same few walls, only exercising once a day. Split from our families, living alone, isolated and waiting for whatever food we could get our hands on. Our freedoms were taken away, removed. Life felt so unnatural. Thankfully, for us, this has only been temporary.
For captive whales and dolphins this is their reality every, single day. These highly sociable, extremely active and intelligent mammals should not be kept in over-sized tanks. This is why I am so passionate about ending the awful captivity industry. I support Whale and Dolphin Conservation who work relentlessly to not only campaign for the end but to call for their release to dedicated whale sanctuaries. This year 2 Beluga whales, Little Grey and Little White have been transitioning from their captive tank to the first whale sanctuary in Iceland.
On Sunday 12th July I will be putting on an orca costume and completing 26.2miles. I will be running 1 mile repetitions of Brighton and Hove Seafront to simulate the repetition faced by our cetacean friends in their tanks. It will be hot. It will be boring. Imagine how real orcas feel?
Help me to raise money and awareness together we can EMPTY THE TANKS for good!
