Story
Football Should Be Unforgettable. Unfortunately, for many living with dementia the precious memories they collect over a lifetime of being a fan will begin to slip away.
The FA and Alzheimer’s Society have a 2 year charity partnership aiming to ensure that every fan, player, former player, coach and staff member up and down the country can access dementia support if they need it. And we are helping to fund this support service by raising over £500,000!
To play my part, I will be running the David Goggins challenge in March. This consists of running 4 miles, every 4 hours for 48 hours. That equates to 12 runs and a total of 76km/47 miles over two days. I plan to start on Friday 9th of March at 4 am and finish just after midnight on Saturday (so, technically Sunday).
Every penny you can donate will make a huge difference to people affected by dementia.
£5 would give 29 people access to Talking Point. When you're dealing with dementia, you need to know you're not alone. Logging on to Talking Point - the online community - means people can share their experiences, challenges, and offload in a safe space.
£15 would pay for vital lab equipment for one of our
brilliant dementia researchers. Every day, researchers use a variety of
equipment. Pipettes, special chemicals, flasks - all critical to keep dementia research moving forward.
£25 would enable us to answer 4 calls on the dementia support line. When someone is worried about their memory it's difficult to know where to turn. But help is available from the very first concerns about memory loss. Trusted Dementia Advisers can help people understand their symptoms, and support them towards getting a diagnosis - critical for accessing the support that will help them live well.
£60 would pay for half a day of work for one of our safeguarding officers. Safeguarding is critical to our service users, who sometimes end up in unsafe living situations. When crises arise, the safeguarding team is there to find compassionate solutions that work for everybody in the long term.
Thank you!
