Story
My lovely Dad, Martin Locker, was tragically taken away from us on March 19th 2019 from sudden heart failure.
Dad lived life to the full. He loved spending time with family and friends and was always the life and soul of the party.
When we first found out that Dad had passed away, it never even crossed our minds that he had suffered from a heart attack. He had no symptoms, he was in seemingly very good health and he had mentioned recently how he felt fitter than ever. He was pottering around the garden, had chatted to his Dad about how great his weekend was and had planned on going for a walk later that afternoon.
On that Tuesday afternoon, he collapsed in his garden and despite the efforts of some brave neighbours, the local doctor, the paramedics from 2 road ambulances and 2 air ambulances, they could not revive him or restart his heart.
Dad had a pacemaker fitted 9 years previously. He was told by specialist heart doctors that his heart was healthy for a man his age, and that his heart would not be the organ that packed in first. He joked about outliving us all. How, in 9 years, his heart deteriorated so significantly and without any signs or symptoms, despite regular check ups at the doctors- leading to a fatal heart attack is a total mystery to his family and friends.
In the wake of Dad's death, our devastated family and his many beloved friends look to make sense of this loss and search for answers.
Unfortunately, there are none; which is why we ask for you to donate to the British Heart Foundation so that they can continue their research into the many mysterious ways in which the heart works and save some very precious and treasured lives.
I will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on October 13th alongside by sister and boyfriend to raise money for BHF- any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading Dad's story.
Love,
The Lockers.
