Story
Like so many people around the world I have watched in shock and disbelief as the war in Ukraine brings greater and greater suffering every day.
I feel utterly powerless but, by offering people the chance to win an original painting (worth approximately £175) in return for a charitable donation to DEC, I hope that I can at least do SOMETHING to help.
"Standing Tall" is an original acrylic painting on heavy cartridge paper featuring a field of sunflowers - the national flower of Ukraine- against a dramatic sky. Something about the central sunflower in the image (photo credit: Mike Marrah on Unsplash) is reminiscent of the Ukranian spirit we have seen via harrowing news feeds throughout the invasion; standing tall, proud and defiant.
The painting is supplied unframed and unmounted but will happily pop into a shop bought A4 frame. I will include free postage to anywhere in the UK. People outside the UK are also welcome to enter but will have to cover postage/tax charges (sorry 😬).
Only entrants who have donated to DEC via my JustGiving page will be eligible to win the painting. Here's how it works:
The competition is for people 18 years of age and over - please read below carefully.
To be entered into the giveaway you need to donate via my Just Giving link to DEC (more information below).
(Please donate in multiples of £5 because my maths is hopeless!).
IMPORTANT - feel free to donate anonymously, but be sure to enter your NAME and EMAIL ADDRESS when prompted and tick the 'I'm happy to share my contact details with Hannah Thorpe Art Sunflower Painting Giveaway for the purpose of thanking me' box too so I can contact you if you win! I can't enter you into the giveaway if I don't have these!
At the end of the giveaway, one person will be selected at random from the list of donors to "win" the painting. I will then contact the winner to organise postage.
The giveaway will run from the 22nd March-1st April. The winner will be contacted shortly after to arrange delivery.
Thank you for considering donating and good luck! I hope that together we can make a difference to those affected by war in Ukraine.
Intense conflict in Ukraine is threatening the lives and livelihoods of civilians across the country, causing hundreds of thousands to flee. Homes have been destroyed or are unsafe to live in. Essential services have been hit. Families have been separated. People have been injured. Lives have been lost.DEC charities and their local partners are in Ukraine and across the border in the neighbouring countries. They are working to meet the immediate needs of all people fleeing with food, water, medical assistance, protection and trauma care. £30 could provide essential hygiene supplies for three people for one month. £50 could provide blankets for 4 families to keep them warm. £100 could provide emergency food for two families for one month.
