Hello, I'm Hannah !
I'm a PhD student studying motor neuron development at the University of Edinburgh. I'm funded by an MNDA scholarship to find the scientific basis of motor neuron development, to give us information that can also be passed on to medical applications. I'm easily the loudest member of my lab, so I'll struggle to remain quiet for 2 days. I have the option to start speaking again, but for people with MND who lose their voice, they don't get the choice.
I'll be keeping quiet and only using my basic British Sign Language knowledge and a whiteboard to communicate. Last year I did the Ice Bucket Challenge for MND, and this June is MND Awareness Month with #SilenceSpeaks to raise attention to the other effects of MND- that of losing communication with friends and family.
