Story
This Spina Bifida Awareness Week (18-24 October 2021) we are supporting Shine to increase awareness of spina bifida and raise vital funds so that Shine can continue to provide specialist advice and support services to those affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Our site communication's officer, Hannah Phillips, has been personally affected by Spina Bifida, after her daughter Ella was born with a form of Spina Bifida called a Lipomyelomeningocele. This affects Ella's bladder, bowel and legs, and meant that Ella had to undergo spinal surgery to detether her spine at 10 months old. Whilst the spinal surgery should limit any future nerve damage caused by the Spina Bifida, Ella does currently need medication and cathertisation five times a day. Shine - the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus charity - supports children and adults like Ella throughout their lives. Shine's work is almost entirely funded by the generosity of the general public. Any donation you make as part of Spina Bifida Awareness Week would be greatly appreciated and has the potential for profound impact. Thank you!
