Story

Hi!

In light of the recent crisis in Ukraine I’ll be doing a race https://finaldescents.com/ in Slovenia in April to fundraise for Atlantic Pacific in aid of Ukrainian refugees. Funds from Final Descents will be used for three things. The first is to deliver emergency aid to the Polish/Ukrainian border following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the second is to Hope and Homes for Children in Ukraine, with NGOs who are working to avert a child protection emergency of epic proportions. Third is to develop a next generation of rigid-hulled inflatable boat (Hahn Evolution) to be the best in-shore rescue boat

For Ukraine; As millions of refugees escape over the polish border, there is a need for emergency casualty care to provide assistance to those who are physically injured. AP has a world-leading Casualty Care course, based on a check card system. AP will deliver this training to local Polish and Ukrainian NGOs and civilians who are helping refugees from Ukraine as well as provide them with the medical kit required to administer the care. Training front line staff will enable them to help the millions of people (of predominantly women and children) who have already crossed the border, and the millions more that will come in the following months. This training will save hundreds of lives.

Hope and Homes: My friends colleagues in Ukraine (Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk), Romania and Moldova, are working alongside other NGOs to avert a child protection emergency of epic proportions. Hospitals and orphanages are being shelled. Refugees fleeing, particularly unaccompanied children, are extremely vulnerable to being trafficked.
In Ukraine the team is providing direct, emergency provisions to families and children. In Moldova and Romania my colleagues are on the borders supporting refugees as they arrive. Hope and Homes for Children is not a huge charity but has global expertise in child protection, established programmes in these 3 countries (working in Ukraine for almost 25 years), and brave colleagues doing everything they can to help.

The new rescue boat; This will be used for deployment in developing countries as part of APs Lifeboat in a Box programme. As well as a new rescue asset, AP is looking into ways at constructing the boats from recycled plastic, to make reproduction of these boats cheap and achievable for our partners located in countries which lack funds and resource.
