Story

I am fundraising for Beat, the UK's eating disorder charity. Beat supports anyone with an eating disorder, their friends and family, as well as professionals working with or worried about an individual in their care. These serious mental illnesses include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. An estimated 1.25 million people in the UK suffer an eating disorder. Eating disorders don't discriminate: any age, any gender, and background and cost the UK's economy £16.8 billion each year.

I chose Beat because of the number of team mates and close friends within elite sport I have seen affected throughout my career with the Great Britain hockey team. Beat have been an invaluable resource for practical advice and guidance but more still needs to be done to raise awareness of eating disorders and reduce the stigma and misunderstanding so people can get help as quickly as possible.
