Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I’m not setting a target amount because I know that times are hard financially for many of us right now, but any donation big or small is greatly appreciated - you can donate as little as £2 through JustGiving!
The Sheffield Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday 26th March 2023, and on Monday 20th March 2023 it will be one whole year since my Grandma Elsie lost her battle with cancer less than a year after being diagnosed. The work that cancer research charities do is vital, but the money and research they receive isn’t always shared throughout the UK equally. In fact, Yorkshire as a region has the third-worst cancer outcomes in England. That’s why I’m raising money for Yorkshire Cancer Research; because they exist to change this statistic and ensure the people of Yorkshire receive the prompt diagnoses, effective treatment and early detection/prevention they deserve.
I decided to do the Sheffield Half Marathon as a fundraising activity to challenge myself. Many people will know that I’ve previously ran the Leeds Half Marathon, a route less hilly than Sheffield’s course. That being said, I haven’t ran more than the odd 5km route here and there for over a year now which means this won’t be easy. But I’m going to do it in memory of my Grandma and for everyone in Yorkshire currently affected by cancer.
