Story
We are both taking on this massive challenge and we would appreciate any donations no matter how small to help us reach our end goal.
In April 2018 we will both be running the London Marathon. We have both enjoyed running and taken part in half marathons but running a marathon is a completely new test. We will be training extremely hard to achieve this over the next coming months.
We both chose to run for Spinal Research for separate personal reasons. I have chosen to run as my uncle was tragically injured in a rugby accident in his early 20s which resulted in him breaking his neck. After the accident he suffered from complete quadriplegia. Gradually over time he has regained some movement with his right side being affected more. He is such an inspiration and continues to persevere to gain more movement even though he suffers from a lot of spasticity. He is a determined man that has overcome many challenges that have been put in his way. I feel that running the marathon will be a small challenge compared to the one he faces on a daily basis.
I have chosen to run as back in 2011, my godmother was diagnosed with MS. Every day, Judy shows such strength and is so positive to beat this. There are over 100,000 people in the UK that are affected by MS. It is a complex, unpredictable condition and many of the symptoms are invisible to non-sufferers. By donating to Spinal Research, we are all helping to fund advancing treatments in the fight against MS!!
Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Every year 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the support of the public to raise funds for our research. Because of the efforts of our supporters, we have funded innovative medical research that has achieved a number of ground breaking changes in the field. This medical research will not only benefit people with spinal cord injury but also advance treatments for other medial conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's, stroke, dementia and MND.
And as cheesy as it sounds.. every penny does help. Thank you so much!
