Story
On 9th November 2024 I will be celebrating my 35th birthday. I will also be half way through a trek through the Sahara Desert - raising funds for the Community Hospice who provide specialist palliative and end of life care for the people of Greenwich and Bexley.
I have worked as a Speech and Language Therapist in Greenwich and Bexley boroughs for the last 10 years. First at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, then in the Bexley Community Neuro Rehab Team, and I now have the privilege of being the Team Lead for Rehabilitation and Wellbeing here at the Community Hospice. It’s been almost two years now and no day working here has been the same - I love it!
The Hospice provides palliative and end of life care to approximately 3000 people every year, and this number is only going to grow over the coming years. We provide this excellent care in the Hospice itself, people’s own homes, the local hospital, care homes and prisons. This care is provided by the specialist and dedicated professionals that I am proud to call my colleagues.
It costs approximately £12 million to provide our services every year and many people don’t know that Community Hospice is a charity. Without generous donations from people like you, we would not be able to provide the care that we do: helping people to live well and to die well.
So, if you are able, please sponsor me to spend my 35th birthday, and the days around it, trekking miles, sweating in the heat of the day, shivering in the cold of the night, and doing something beyond anything I have done before.
Thank you in advance - your donation will really make a difference.
