Hannah and Kate are raising money for the Arthur Rank hospice to say thank you for all their help and support, and to acknowledge what fantastic work their charity does for their patients and their families.
When Hannah's father in law Malcolm, was diagnosed with throat cancer in February 2015,it was a devastating blow for him and the whole family. Though he had his voice box removed and he appeared to be getting better,he became unwell in August and a secondary tumour was discovered in his neck. He had intense radiotherapy but this was to no avail, and he was told he had three weeks to live. He insisted on dying at home in the flat that he loved and had shared with his beloved wife. This is when the Arthur Rank hospice entered our lives. A fantastic charity, whom visited within days of Malcolm being at home, offering services and support, reassuring us that someone was there for us as well as Malcolm. Malcolm managed to last six weeks before passing away which became an issue with carers, with the care service wanting to withdraw night time care due to overspending, insisting the family did it. This was a terrifying prospect for us,we weren't doctors or nurses,we couldn't be in charge of his care, what if something happened that we couldn't deal with? Or even worse? We'd have that as everlasting memory....so in desperation we phoned the Arthur Rank hospice and they were amazing. A lady called Ann,spent several nights looking after Malcolm, letting us rest, reassured that he was in great hands. Ann and the Arthur Rank hospice, allowed us to be the family we'd always been instead of carers. They allowed us to be sons, daughters, sister, brother, grandchildren and great grandchildren, forging those last memories without any more stress or heartache. Ann was even present the evening and night,Malcolm passed away, making sure everyone had everything,so they could just sit by Malcolm's side and be with him in his final moments.
We never heard Malcolm's gorgeous northern voice again after that February so I want to be his voice and say a big, huge thank you to such an amazing charity. This is only one story of the impact that the Arthur Rank hospice has had on mine and my families lives,as they nursed my grandad and my uncle in their final days too.
I am overwhelmed with gratefulness to the Arthur Rank hospice for choosing me to take part in the London marathon on their behalf, while raising as much money for such a worthy charity.
Kate saw the impact that the Arthur Rank Hospice had on Hannah and her family's lives and was keen to run an event on their behalf. Kate has been running over a year now and has ran several 10ks and lots of half marathons. She is now aiming at completing her first marathon in 2018,running the Brighton marathon on April 15th.
Thank you so much for your support x
P.s any of my family sponsoring me, please don't pay gift aid as my London marathon place is a gifted place so I'm not allowed to accept gift aid payments from family. Thank you, Hannah xx
