Event: Virtual Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2021, on 29 May 2021
Funding from Sepsis Research FEAT supports a GenOMICC research study which is now collecting COVID-19 samples. They can perform the same genes research planned for sepsis, with COVID-19. This could help prioritise treatments to control the outbreak.

Story

After suffering septic shock in 2018, it was a hard and long journey to recovery that could not have been possible without all of the healthcare professionals involved. After getting my full strength back, I am now aiming to raise £500 in running a marathon to aid in the vital research of sepsis whilst raising awareness for such an important matter. Any donations would be very much appreciated ❤️

Sepsis arises when your body's response to an infection spirals rapidly out of control, injuring it's own tissues and organs. Sepsis is life-threatening. Over 52,000 people in the UK die from sepsis every year. This is more than bowel and prostate cancer combined.Sepsis Research FEAT is a funder and supporter of the GenOMICC research study being conducted by Dr Kenneth Baillie at the Roslin Institute. Their pioneering work aims to discover specific genes that control the processes that lead to life-threatening illness. By understanding these processes, they hope to design effective treatments. To conduct their research they need to collect and store DNA samples from thousands of critically ill patients.Funding from Sepsis Research FEAT helps them do that. This genes based research is vitally important in our mission to #stopsepsisnow.
