Story
Piper was diagnosed with a large VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect)she was only 4 weeks old. This means that there is a hole in the wall in between the 2 lower chambers of the heart. She was in and out of hospital constantly. We thought we were just going to a clinic appointment, but they admitted her that day on the heart ward. They told us that she was deteriorating quickly and not gaining weight at all even with her NG feeding tube in. The consultant wanted Piper in hospital as her surgery would be sooner, which it was. She had open heart surgery on Friday 14th October. She recovered so well that we were allowed home a week later. She was improving each day that passed. She has now made a full recovery due to all the support from Freeman Hospital staff.
We can't thank the whole team enough on the help that they provided to her and us. From the surgeon to staff members on PICU and the ward in Freeman hospital and CHUF charity. Most of her life has been a whirlwind of emotions and of events for her and her family
CHUF's mission is to make life better for children and young people who are born with or who develop heart conditions by providing lifelong support to them and their families. CHUF supports children and families who receive treatment at the Children’s Heart Unit based at the Freeman Hospital and the many other hospitals providing care for cardiac patients throughout the North of England.
