Story
A few months ago, in October 2014 I suddenly lost my precious Nan, Kathleen Minett at just the age of 66. Kathy was not only a loving Nan to two Grandchildren who she adored very much, but was a caring Mother, Wife, Sister and Mother-in-law.
Like many others she was a sufferer of Mental Health Illness for 14 years, but battled on with the additional fight of Cancer too. The tough years that my precious Nan went through, we fought as a family to help and support her as she continued to carry on with normal day to day life as a brave and strong soul.
Even though my beautiful Nan had her good and bad days, to me she was always the same person that held me in her arms the day I was born. My Nans life was one long journey that we all walked together, and the tears shed and laughs shared are all memories that will lay in our hearts forever in rememberance of Kathy Minett.
Depression and anxiety is becoming more common as 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year. We are running the Cardiff Half Marathon to not only raise money for the charity, but to more importantly raise awareness of Mental Health Illness and to show people who may suffer in silence that there is help and support out there to overcome the fight. We want to make a difference to those people's lives while we can, to show them that what may seem like a hole of darkness can be filled with memories of happiness with the correct care and support.I strongly believe that by raising money and awareness for a charity so close to our hearts, this is exactly what my Nan would have wished for, and will be looking proudly down on us.
