Instead of the usual river flooding, monstrous rains have now also caused urban flooding, flash floods, and severe inundations due to glacial lake outburst. Regions across the country have been hit with four to six times more rainfall than normal. One-third of Pakistan is underwater, and one in seven people have been affected. The devastation is beyond catastrophic, with tens of millions of vulnerable people homeless, uprooted from their communities, and facing injury, disease, hunger, and psychological distress.
Heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in north-east Bangladesh, and have devastated over 2 million people. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their homes, and scores of people have tragically died, including over 20 children.
