In March I agreed to participate in the Deloitte Ride Across Britain foolishly thinking it would be rather enjoyable to cycle from one end of the country to the other. The event comprises cycling 969 miles over 9 days which, at 108 miles per day, is slightly more than the average on the 2014 Tour de France. It also involves a total ascent greater than 15,000 metres or 13 times Alpe d'Huez.
I am raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphona Research. 30,000 people are diagnosed with cancer of the blood in the UK each year including many, many children. Sadly I have known and heard of too many children that have either fought and beaten leukaemia, are currently undergoing treatment or have lost the battle. I hope that the money I raise from my ride helps to beat this devastating disease.
