Story
Hi everyone,
If you've spoken to me at all in the last 6 months I'm sure I've bored you senseless talking about running and this is why! On Friday (03/06) I'm attempting to run the length of the grand union canal, a distance of 145 miles or 233kms from the centre of Birmingham to Paddington in London. While I'm hoping to complete this in 30-35 hours, the cut-off time is 45 hours so anytime under that will be fine by me!
I'm doing this in aid of Molly Olly's Wishes, a charity based in Warwick (where I'm from). The charity supports families who have children with life threatening illnesses. They offer 'wishes' to these families.
'Wishes have an average value of £500 and can be for anything and everything from medical aids and equipment, toys, bedroom makeovers, outside play equipment, days out, shopping vouchers, electronic devices, arts and crafts, funds to help with transport costs etc. Each wish is individual to the child, and our aim is that the wishes help these children through extremely challenging circumstances and provide special memories for those around them.'
Some of the stories of children and their families receiving wishes can be read here: https://mollyolly.co.uk/wish-stories/ All donations will go towards these wishes which I'm sure you can see the value of to the families.
The charity was set up in memory of their daughter Molly, you can read her story here: https://mollyolly.co.uk/who-we-are/mollys-story/
All donations to this fantastic charity are greatly appreciated, thank you in advance for your kindness.
*UPDATE*
WE DID IT! After 44 hours 19 minutes, 145 miles, ~297,000 steps, 18,500 calories, enough ups and downs to open a theme park, I crossed the line at 02:19am in Paddington. I'm so pleased to have gotten over the line in a race where nearly 50% of starters don't make the finish.
A HUGE thank you to my parents for running support, and all the kind messages sent to them, it really kept me going in the lows. Also a huge thank you to my running buddies, Charlie and Niall, my uncle Dom and Will, it made such a difference to have some company.
Thanks to all the kind messages people sent to me as well, I read them as I went along and it pushed me forward. It's definitely now time for some rest and recovery!
