Story
Dear Donor,
Following the tragedy in Haiti that has left at least 180,000 dead, 250,000 injured and over a million homeless, HF dispatched 37 surgeons and clinicians and they have performed over 4,500 life saving operations from Port-au-Prince, Jimani and Carrefour. In the process, we have shipped over 4 tonnes of medical supplies to Haiti, hundreds of water purification boxes, thousands of kilos of food, diapers for orphans and have also been able to share urgent medical supplies with other NGOs working with us in the field. Our team are now also looking at long term projects related to orphan care, education and rehabilitation of water infrastructure.
Africa Medical Missions
We have also been active in Africa. In the last 2 weeks, we had teams working in Ghana and Burkina Faso. In Ghana, we are close to opening a Nutrition Lab which will provide after-care services to a number of local hospitals. In Burkina Faso, we continue to provide life changing cataract surgery. £30 restores sight to someone. We also ran medical camps in the Sahel area at the start of the Sahara Desert and saw cases of Leprosy, Scabies and Malaria. We also have a medical team going out to Uganda next month to do clinical skills transfer. Whilst the focus is on disasters, these projects will help toraise the level of healthcare provision in Africa.
