Story
Thank you for visiting our Justgiving page.
On Sunday 30 July 2017, we will be taking part in the ‘Pedal for Poverty’ activity and peddling from London Bridge around the city of London to raise money for a charity called Forgotten Women.
Forgotten Women endeavours to help women who have suffered injustice, hardship and neglect whether it is due to war, natural
disasters or poverty. Their objective is to offer women the opportunity to develop their independence and protect their dignity.
Women play an important role in supporting their households and communities; generating income, collecting food and water, and providing care for all family members. They contribute mostly to agriculture and fuel local and global economies. However, around the world, women face persistent hierarchical constraints that prevent them from fully enjoying their human rights and prevent them from improving their lives as well as those of others around them. A woman will earn less than 40p a day in most African countries, This is earned by begging, doing odd jobs and in some cases, unfortunately, even compromising their dignity in desperation.
Forgotten Women want to give women the opportunities to run their own business where she can earn anything up to £60 – £80 a month, resulting in providing for her family and not resorting to methods where she feels degraded and exploited.Women and girls spend 90% of their income on their families.
Thank you in advance for your support.
