Currently, 99% of maternal mortality occurs in developing countries with pregnancy being  the 3^rd leading cause of death for Bangladeshi women. JourneyMaa is a project that aims to reduce these figures through simple and sustainable healthcare made available in rural Bangladesh. 

Maternal Aid Association (Maa) is a grassroot charity striving to improve the dire situation in resource-poor settings to bring about safe, effective, high quality maternal health care.  Each year, from the UK a group of medical and non-medical volunteers set up health camps in rural Bangladesh. The team delivers basic healthcare checks including blood pressure, urinalysis, blood glucose and provides educational seminars and workshops for mothers, to teach them about safe pregnancies and new-born care. To facilitate JourneyMaa, Maa has established strong links with local universities, medical professionals and healthcare students with the aim of providing long-term sustainable maternal care in rural areas of Bangladesh.

This year I have been selected to go on JourneyMaa and have set a target to raise £5000.
