Story

Between 3rd to 8th May 2020, Dave, Carol, Caroline & Pedro will be walking The Hadrian’s Wall Path. This is 84 miles long from Bowness-on-Solway in the west to Wallsend in the east which was the site of Roman Fort Segedunum. We had the seed of the idea over beer & whiskies in Edinburgh but needed to juggle together four different shift patterns (Caroline & Pedro are Staff Nurses at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Acute Assessment Unit).

Caroline and Pedro pick off Munros for fun (Munros=Mountains in Scotland with unpronounceable names over 3000 feet). Carol and Dave are used to more leisurely walks in the Surrey Hills. While we are walking we are hoping to raise much needed funds for Freddie who is Dave & Carol’s Great Nephew and Caroline’s second cousin. Freddie relies on this type of crucial fund-raising for his various therapies, via the brilliant registered children's charity Tree Of Hope.
For those of you who don’t know him, Freddie is a lovely, happy, 4 year old with cerebral palsy. He was deprived of oxygen at birth and has severe brain damage (Grade 3 Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy HIE) which has caused him to have bilateral dystonic cerebral palsy. Freddie has experienced many challenges in his 4 years but he is a fighter and always has a smile on his face, especially when he is watching his favourite Peppa Pig or Mr Tumble. More info can be read about Freddie at www.freddiesstory.com.
Freddie’s family are fundraising for his crucial treatments, therapies and equipment and in particular they are trying to raise money to send Freddie back to the world renowned NAPA Center, where they do 3 weeks of intensive therapy. He has visited twice and we hear it’s an extremely inspiring place and his family saw big improvements in such a short space of time. While at NAPA his therapists were teaching him to make sounds, to communicate yes (by raising his hand) and no (by turning his head), and how to sit up and support himself. He also did CME therapy which he loved. More info can be read about NAPA at https://www.napacenter.org/.
All these therapies and equipment cost a lot of money so we all want to fundraise to make sure Freddie has the best chance to continue to improve and overcome every challenge that comes his way. All the fundraising money goes via the brilliant Tree Of Hope charity.
So friends, please sponsor us if you can. We appreciate all your support!
