Story
Back in 2019, after my first pregnancy loss and keyhole surgery, I was ready to be discharged the next morning. However I was in severe pain all night and was struggling to pee. We all believed it was part of my recovery from surgery until I went for a walk and collapsed. A few days later I woke up from a coma and had a prolonged stay in ITU on the ventilator. I had sepsis. Thanks to the NHS I survived and thanks to the UKSEPSIS Trust I recovered.
My family & I never heard of sepsis before, and as a community champion who speaks to members of the community on a regular basis- there are too many who also don’t know what sepsis is and how it is responsible for almost 48,000 deaths a year in the UK.
Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis. It raises awareness, and sparks the question: What is sepsis?
In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms. It also funds vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis.
I understand the cost of living crisis and it’s impact on people, but if you are able to spare even a small amount it can make a huge impact and help the UKSEPSIS Trust do their work in raising awareness & thus save lives.
Thank you
