Story
On the back of my 12 challenge runs in a year to fundraise for HERIB I decided that one challenge should really take me outside of my comfort zone (not that some of the runs so far haven’t at points!). So I’ve added this page to include a bit of detail on this challenge, which will donate to the same cause as the ‘12 Challenge’ page.
So I’ve conceived what I think might be a unique route to run/walk that will take several days to complete along first the River Ure – from its source in the pennines – through Wensleydale (Yorkshire Dales), which later becomes the River Ouse, before running along the length of the Humber to Spurn Point. So in effect I’m running from the source to the very end of the waterways that become the Humber - a journey of over 185 miles. I’m planning to tackle this challenge over 5 days in August, with the longest three days being close to or over 50 miles long. More detail in my blog here!
This will also be a journey of personal significance as this waterway passes close to the tiny village and area my mother was brought up in. To visit this area as part of a challenge, which will also pass my childhood home in Swanland, is tribute I wanted to pay having lost my mother to cancer in 2013. This challenge is raising money for charity in her memory.
She devoted a lot of time to volunteering, especially to assist the visually impaired. And took on all kinds of challenges you might not think a visually impaired person would - to name a few sailing, climbing, archery, drama and her favourite in recent years, yoga. So I hope people will find my challenge worthy of a donation for HERIB (Hull & East Riding Institute for the Blind) so activities such as the yoga group for the visually impaired can continue long into the future.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
