Story

Be a part of building “OUR STREET!”

Since September of last year, I’ve been working with Music and Theatre for All, an incredible creative team and the community of Lewisham to build a brand new opera from the ground up.

Starting with just four community participants, we have grown a vibrant, diverse family around this project to create a work that is full of heart and hope.

We now need YOUR HELP to make this happen -
first in July, when we will share a preview, then in December, when the opera will be performed in all its fully-staged glory.

Every penny counts to realise the wonderful collaborative work of over 250 participants, professionals and volunteers, and to involve even more Lewisham residents in a show to remember - a legacy of arts skills building, group development and friendship across cultural, age and ability divides.

Give whatever you can, and in return for your support you’ll be treated to a sneak preview of the music of our opera. Choose from the snippets below and receive an exclusive Herbert-home-recording delivered to your inbox!

Write your choice in the comments section of this page, and please ensure you check the box “share your email address” when making your donation.

Act 1 Scene 1: “This is Our Street”
We meet the residents of "Our Street" - from the gruff Market Trader to the sparkly Koffee Shop Owner - in a state of disconnection and  discontent...

Act 1 Scene 1: “I Am Lord Raven"
Meanwhile, up in Raven Towers, Lord Raven is puffed up and pacing. At his feet, his minions hang on his every word and caw their approval.

Act 1 Scene 2: “Nothing To Do With Me”
The slam of the shutters brings the chorus back to life, and they run to the riverbank to find a young Girl, lost and hungry... this is a problem no one wants to solve.

Act 1 Scene 3: “Chance to Shine”
Lord Raven sends his minions out to win over the hearts and minds of "Our Street" with a message that's not entirely clear...

Act 1 Scene 4: “Lost and Found”
The river gently whisks the Girl through the Street. At first, she's met with judgement and rejection, but she gradually dances her way into the community's heart, and through their interactions with her, they start to notice each other in a new way...

Donate £100 or more to receive all 5 recordings, along with the bonus track of the Girl’s Arrival Song.

With thanks and love,

Gwyn xxx
