Each year the Chairman of our organisation, chooses a
charity to support throughout their year in office. I have chosen to support Alzheimer’s Research UK.

My Granny suffered with Alzheimer’s over the last 10 years
of her life. In herself she was fit and well, but her mind told a different
story. 

The more I speak to people about the disease, I become aware of more and more people that have the disease or have family and friends that are affected by it in some way.

Little is known about Alzheimer’s, and there is currently no cure. The disease is becoming more and more common, every day 600 people
develop dementia, and that’s just in the UK (www.alzheimersresearchuk.org, 2018).

I’ve chosen Alzheimer’s research UK, as Gwent YFC’s Chairman’s Charity this year, in hope that the money we raise can go towards
learning more about this disease and finding a cure to help future generations.

So I’ve set the six clubs of Gwent YFC a challenge. Well actually, they are each going to set me a challenge! Throughout the summer of 2019 we
will be hiking, biking and getting drenched all in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Below are the dates and challenges, any support to cheer us on, on the day of the events or sponsorship to motivate us to get to the end will be gratefully received.

Usk YFC: 24 hour Cycle Challenge at Usk Show, 14th September

Bedwas YFC: Walking the 5 bridges of Newport, 21st September
