Story
The Superhero Series is a one day outdoor event in which disabled and non-disabled participants take part in a para-tri at Eton Dorney. Due to COVID19 things are a little different this year and the At Home Superheroes was born.
Between 15 June - 15th July, Gwen and her Mummy have taken on the challenge of completing 20km in any way we can. Easy for most, but when you are 4yrs old (just) and can’t stand unaided or walk it’s not so easy.
At the time of deciding to take on the challenge Gwen was 3yrs old. So that seemed like a good number for Gwen. She will aim to:
Push herself 2km in either her wheelchair or standing frame. The remaining 1km will be completed by a mixture of crawling, bunny hopping up the stairs and pushing herself backwards in her walker (for some reason Gwen refuses to go forwards!).
3km is a long way for any child of Gwen’s age so doing it this way is certainly going to be a challenge.
Mummy will run 6km on her own and the remaining 11km will be Gwen sitting in her pram like a Princess whilst Mummy pushes her on a 5km walk and then a 6km run.
Exhausting thinking about it!
Gwen has attended Tadworth Tots at The Children’s Trust since September 2018. From a 2yr old that would cry if Mummy stepped 5 metres away from her she has turned into a sassy 4yr old who waves Mummy off every morning and sometimes refuses to come home. Gwen just wants to say thank you!
