Story
Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page.
On 1 July, Lindsey and I are doing the Yorkshire Dales half-marathon Macmillan Mighty Hike. It’s a 13-mile hilly and rocky hike from Malham to Hebden near Skipton.
We’re doing the hike together to raise funds for Macmillan, a fantastic charity, and in memory of our lovely dads, Malc and Jim, who both had cancer.
For Gwen, this is a cause that’s particularly close to my heart at the moment as I’ve recently been diagnosed with skin cancer – stage 3 malignant melanoma. I’ve had two surgical procedures and am just starting 12 months of immunotherapy – a treatment that helps your immune system find and kill cancer cells. I hope to make a full recovery but am not out of the woods yet. Many people seem to think melanoma is “just skin cancer” but it’s not as simple as that. It’s the most serious type of skin cancer due to its tendency to grow and spread, and early detection is crucial. It's also the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK now, and has increased by around 25% in the last 10 years.
We hope to raise some money for Macmillan to help them continue providing emotional, physical and financial support to people with cancer and their families / friends. I (Gwen) for one have found the advice and information available from Macmillan hugely helpful.
If you would like to support this fantastic charity, any donations will be hugely appreciated – thank you!
