Story
Terrestrial Restoration ActionSociety Seychelles (TRASS) was formed in 2009, after a survey showed that 45%of land of Praslin Island was degraded and eroded due to forest fires. TRASS is an NGO made up of volunteers who grow, propagate and plant trees year round, aiming to restore degraded and bare earth back into the lush green forest it once was. Once a month, our volunteers go to Praslin and take part in a planting session with TRASS, usually at the top of an exposed hill, making it very hot, hard but rewarding work. Money raised may be used for the upkeep of the plants in the nursery, and the planting materials.
One of the goals for our Island Conservation Expedition is to live and work as sustainably as possible. Currently we are striving to reduce our single use plastic usage, and reach out to as many people as we can at the same time, helping to educate and inspire others to make positive changes towards living more sustainably.
In order to raise money for TRASS, whilst also attacking marine litter and plastic, we are holding a beach clean. On Saturday 11th of August, our volunteers and staff will go to Praslin and spend the day hiking up and down a beach or two, picking up litter and cleaning as we go. Litter collected will be sorted, and everything recyclable will be recycled. Updates will be posted on social media over the coming days. Any donations will be gratefully received!
