Story
Hello All,
This year I will be running the 24th Team Strides Lochaber Marathon, and I'm hoping to raise a bit of money for charity along the way. I am currently undergoing intensive training, suffering and a great deal of weight loss in the hope of achieveing a good time in the race and now hopefully guilt tripping you into giving some cash. Now I understand that it may be considered a bit weak that i'm only running one race so for my own punishment and as a greater incentive to donate I will be running in a number of events in the run up to the marathon in April. These are so far confirmed as:
1) Alsager 5 - Feb 4th (Completed: 32 min 26 secs)
This one wasnt too bad, apart from the journey there which involved motorway driving in the fog! Was pretty short at 5 miles round country lanes in the cold. Thanks for all the sponsorship so far!
INJURY UPDATE: The six week lay off is over and I am back running. Hopefully the foot will only get better!
2) Liverpool Half Marathon - March 25th (Completed around 2hrs 7 mins)
This was the first race back after my six week lay off, felt good enought to have a go so jogged very very slowly, hence the time. My foot seemed to hold up nicely so hopefully I can build up a bit more stamina for the marathon in a month and my time will be respectable. Keep sponsoring!
3) April Fools Race [4 miles] - April 1st (Completed 25 mins 50 secs)
Put a bit of an effort in this race to see how the foot would hold up, only over a short distance but managed around 6.30 minute miles which isn't too bad. Nice warm and windy day to run and bagged a rather impressive finishers trophy. Keep on sponsoring, its the big one next!
24th Team Strides Lochaber Marathon
(Completed 3hrs 30mins)
Finally after loads of training, one broken toe, a few hospital visits, a six week lay off and then some more training I have run the marathon. Initially quite scarry on the day as in the morning I saw the start of London in hot conditions only to see a cold, wet and windy scottish landscape facing me. Probably better for running in though, and I was happy enough for about 18 - 20 miles. After that it started to hurt a bit and the last two are a bit of a blur, but I got round in a respectable time. Just to say thank you all for your sponsorship. We made it past the £1000 pound mark which is great! I think I can still take sponsorship so dont be afraid to still sponsor if you like. Thanks again for all your support!
4) Croxteth Park 10K (Completed 39 mins 55 secs)
I know in the build up to the marathon I missed a few races so i'm doing a few after in the hope and making up for the missed ones and keeping my running going. Entered this one and got round in a nice time. Running laps which isn't the best and a very hot day, but at least I got a free Mars bar when I finished. Thanks again for all yoour sponsorship
I ran the Marathon for Kidney Research UK. I chose this charity after recently seeing my friend Ross Cohen donate a kidney to his brother Hal. This is a true act of kindness and makes Ross a bit of a legend it is also a little bit more impressive than running a few miles on the road.
Hopefully through my running and your sponsorship we can add a little more to this impressive story. So sponsor me so all the miles I did mean something and sponsor me for Ross and Hal and many others who may find themselves in similar situations.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Kidney Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
