Update
The goal was to run the London 2020 Marathon, due to the current Covid situation the marathon has been postponed, I will be running it in April 2022 in London. I will however be running the Virtual London 40th Anniversary Marathon on the 4th of October with some friends around Carmarthen and the area, all are welcome to come along and support - bring snacks :D
Thank you for all the support at my events and the sponsorship I have received so far, the charity is small and this money will make a big difference to them and the life of babies.
Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under age 3 months. On average in the UK, at least-two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection -one baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and-one baby a week survives with long-term disabilities – physical, mental or both.Yet most group B Strep infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.
I have first hand experience of this infection having nearly lost Ffion to Group B Strep. What she went through in her first weeks in life was horrendous and having cerebral palsy and epilepsy as a result of the infection is heart breaking as this could all have been avoided. I want all pregnant women to be told about Group B Strep so they can at least make a decision to have the test or not. What I would give to have the knowledge while I was pregnant. Ffion is the light of my life, her determination, strong will and happiness is amazing and I run this for her. She runs her 1Km races with such determination, I have no excuse not to get round 26.2 miles.
Thank you to all who have supported so far, you are all amazing.
