Story
There is currently no cure for dementia and it's a cruel disease, robbing families of the memories they've created together.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia. The work the Society does helps search for a cure for dementia in its many forms and helps people today - changing society's perceptions and providing support for people living with and affected by dementia.
The amount of good the Society does is staggering, but so is the size of the problem. Cases of dementia in the UK are forecast to increase to over 1 million by 2021 and over 2 million by 2051 and the Society is committed to being there for every one of those people.
If me getting off my ass and running, walking and/or crawling 26 miles can generate some awareness and a spot o' cash for the cause then I, or someone that looks a lot like me, will do it. As Pheidippides said, "running sucks, but I'ma do it anyway".
As a disclaimer, yes, I work for the Society and yes, you could take the view that a small fraction of what you give will probably end up in my pay cheque, but don't let that discourage you from donating. If anything, knowing that you are paying for me to go to work will make me work harder because you are my favourite friend/colleague/person and your support and/or encouragement means a lot to me.
As we progress on this journey together I will consider special requests such as growing or removing hair (profile pic related; neck and up please, this is a family friendly event), taking pictures where I am wearing fancy hats, that sort of thing. Whatever floats your boat and parts you from your cash.
There's no prize for top sponsor but you should give like there is and that you're keen on it.
